I'd look at both i.e. %GDP and %MCap - since MCap is more volatile - market has more than doubled since last year so if we use current MCap as base, the % to MCap will be understated. GDP is more stable

To put things in perspective: USD 1 trillion of equity flow seen in past 12 months ~ 5% of US GDP IF that were to happen in India, it means Rs. 10,00,000 crore flow to equities in 12 months or about Rs. 85,000 crore per month Mutual Fund monthly SIP flows are Rs.10,000 cr.

“As per the World Bank. India is the top remittance recipient in 2021 with expected flows of US$87bn (3% of GDP)… these inflows play a pivotal role in containing India's overall current account deficit, which we expect to be at US$28bn (0.9% of GDP) in CY21” - Morgan Stanley

Investor sentiment ≠ consumer sentiment! There is a growing disconnect between markets (investor sentiment) and consumer sentiment Asset price rise due to loose monetary & fiscal policies has created wealth but it also leads to Inflation which hurts the poor /1

During the 2013 “Taper Tantrum/ Fragile Five”, India looked very vulnerable to high oil prices and the Rupee took a beating As GDP grew, net oil imports as % of GDP has shrunk significantly + the FX reserves at USD 600 billion are 2x v/s 2013 We are in much stronger shape now

In the 1980s till mid-90s, Indian Rupee INR and Chinese Yuan CNY both depreciated at a rapid pace. In the past 25 years China used the cheap currency advantage and built massive scale in exports. Post 1995, stable CNY. INR continues to depreciate at 3-5% per annum

The key risk to all asset markets (stocks, bonds, commodities, real-estate etc) is inflation. Is current inflation is 'transitory'? That is the 10 trillion-dollar question. If not transitory, it will force Central banks to tighten easy-money stance - negative for most assets

The current Bull Run of the Nifty is amongst the longest and strongest. It has been 243 days since the Nifty saw a 10% correction, the third-longest streak and the second largest rise (57%) ever - since 1992 (Credit Suisse)
