BSE Consumer Durables index was the top drag as it lost 1.65 percent today. BSE Utilities was down 1.5 percent while BSE Auto and Power indices lost close to 1.35 percent each.
On the BSE too, the sentiment was by and large positive with BSE Utilities and Power edging higher by 1.85 percent each while the BSE Banks and financials indices were up more than one percent each.
The BSE telecom index was the top loser, declining 0.7 percent. BSE utilities lost 0.6 percent, while BSE power and realty were down 0.5 percent each. The broader indices, too, ended higher. The BSE midcap gained 0.16 percent and the smallcap 0.18 percent.

Nearly 450 stocks, including Suzlon Energy, HCC, Dhampur Sugar Mills, Nelco, Vakrangee and VIP Industries, hit their upper circuits. BSE utilities index, with a gain of 3.11 percent, emerged as the top sectoral gainer followed by the power index that rose 2.57 percent.

Selling pressure was seen in stocks like Telecom which was down 2.1 percent, followed by the S&P BSE Utilities that fell 1.5 percent, and the S&P BSE Public Sector was down 1.4 percent.
Profit-booking was seen in the S&P BSE Realty index, which was down 1.1 percent, followed by the S&P BSE Utilities that fell 0.5 percent and the S&P BSE Metal index closed 0.2 percent lower.
Sectorally, the S&P BSE Power index rose 2.8 percent followed by the S&P BSE Utilities index that was up 2.6 percent and the S&P BSE Bankex gained 1.2 percent.

Profit-taking was seen in stocks like BSE Oil & Gas index that fell 2.4 percent, followed by the S&P BSE Utilities that was down 2.2 percent, and the S&P BSE Metal index fell 1.7 percent.
Sectorally, the S&P BSE Power index rose 1.2 percent, followed by the S&P BSE Energy index that was up 1.23 percent and the S&P BSE Utilities gained 0.53 percent.
Sectorally, the action was seen in the S&P BSE Healthcare index which was up 3.8 percent followed by the S&P BSE Auto index that was up 1.9 percent, and the S&P BSE Utilities closed 1.8 percent higher.
Back home, barring BSE Utilities which lost 0.09%, all sectoral indices were trading in the green
